2009 Winners

GRAND RAPIDS CATHOLIC CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL WINS NATIONAL ENGINEERING DESIGN CHALLENGE

Grand Rapids Catholic Central wins with the Handy Typer, a a device designed specifically for a teacher at their school who lost his hand in an accident. This device works as a prosthetic with two protruding “fingers” that can type on a standard keyboard.

Grand Rapids Catholic Central has won $3,000 for their school's sponsoring department and a trip to Atlanta, GA, May 12-13 to present at the NISH annual conference.

Congratulations to our second place winners and finalists. The second place winners have both won $1,500 for their school's sponsoring departments:

Outstanding Engineering Design — Bishop Kelly High School, Boise, ID: Syringe Holding and Guidance System (SHAGS)
Outstanding Assistive Technology Design — Commack High School, Commack, NY: New Office Workspace (NOW)
Finalist — St. Ursula Academy, Toledo, OH: The Lift-A-Tray
Finalist — Wethersfield High School, Wethersfield, CT: The Easy Access Transport System (EATS

Special awards were also presented to each of the competing teams on behalf of several JETS Professional Society Affiliates. These awards included:
