FAQs
What does JETS PathAssess™ measure?
The JETS PathAssess™ is an online tool that gives students in grades 9-12 an inside look as to how their unique interests and skills can align with certain majors and careers in engineering. Through a series of scientific and validated questions, student responses are compared to the Holland Theory of Vocational Interest. The result is a specific Holland Code that identifies possible engineering majors and careers the student may wish to pursue.
How does a student take JETS PathAssess™?
Students take JETS PathAssess™ online at www.jets.org through the "Get Started" link on the PathAssess™ home page. The JETS PathAssess™ is a three step process and each step must be completed in order before proceeding to additional steps. Once a student signs up and submits payment, they will receive confirmation of their username and password.
Can it be taken more than once?
Yes. Students may complete two JETS PathAssess™ sessions per year on one individual subscription. A session is considered completed when the student has completed each step of JETS PathAssess™ and requests his/her JETS PathAssess™ results. However, the student may access his/her account more than twice if they require multiple visits to complete a session.
Do I have to complete JETS PathAssess™ in one sitting?
No. Students may complete each session in more than one sitting and will be asked for confirmation before a session is processed as completed.
What is the Holland Theory of Vocation Interest?
John L. Holland, Emeritus Professor, Johns Hopkins University is best known for his theory of vocational personalities and work environments. His research found that people who choose to work in an environment similar to their personality type are more likely to be successful and satisfied. He is the author of several instruments widely used among high school and college populations and others who are searching for an occupation.
According to his theory, most people are one of six personality types:
- Realistic practical, physical, hands-on, tool-oriented
- Investigative analytical, intellectual, scientific, explorative
- Artistic creative, original, independent, chaotic
- Social cooperative, supporting, helping, healing/nurturing
- Enterprising competitive environments, leadership, persuading
- Conventional detail-oriented, organizing, clerical
