Nuclear engineers design, develop, monitor, and operate nuclear plants used to generate power. These engineers devise how to use radioactive materials and derive benefits from nuclear energy and radiation for society. Nuclear energy is not subject to unreliable weather or climate conditions or insufficient supplies of natural resources. Nuclear power is also the nation's largest expandable source of electricity that will help meet clean air requirements by controlling emissions of greenhouse gases and harmful particulates.
