HVAC Engineering, Inc. is a consulting mechanical engineering firm certified through CALTRANS as a Woman-Owned Minority Business Enterprise. Linda L. Alexander, PE, President of HVAC Engineering, Inc., established the firm on June 20, 1994 as a sole proprietor, and then incorporated on April 1, 1996. The firm provides mechanical engineering as a prime engineer for clients including public agency, military, and healthcare facilities in both renovation and new construction. HVAC Engineering has integrated as a sub-consultant to many disciplines including architectural, civil, electrical, and structural on projects to include commercial, residential, and educational. HVAC Engineering also has extensive experience in the design-build arena.
There are 20 full-time employees at the firm under the leadership of Linda Alexander. As President, and Principal in Charge, Linda has over 16 years of engineering experience with 10 years specializing in mechanical engineering. She has a unique problem-solving approach to technically challenging projects which has earned her the reputation as a detail-oriented mechanical engineer. The HVAC Engineering staff includes 2 Registered Mechanical Engineers. The remainder of the staff is comprised of project managers, engineers, designers, CAD operators and administrative personnel. The HVAC Engineering team is continually educated through technical seminars and participation in professional organizations.
The firm offers mechanical engineering design in heating, ventilating and air conditioning; refrigeration; plumbing; fire protection and utility distribution systems. The firm also provides energy analysis and Title 24 documentation. The services provided include construction cost estimates; preparation of mechanical construction documents and specifications; bidding; and post-construction administration.
Construction Drawings are done using AutoCad and/or Microstation - PowerDraft - 7.1 computer software. Mechanical specifications are prepared in-house and a master specification has been developed following the CSI format. It is continually being upgraded to meet the latest standards and codes of the construction industry. The firm also edits all military specifications using the military SpecsInTact program.
Cost Estimates are produced using an internally developed spreadsheet program. The unit costs are continually being updated based on the latest information from either the manufacturers’ cost or Means Mechanical/Plumbing Cost Books. The familiarity with the cost of various components helps the design meet both functional and cost constraints of any project.
The company provides Energy Analysis and Title 24 Documentation for new and existing facilities. Energy conservation techniques are applied to all designs. Working with San Diego Gas & Electric on their rebate program helps HVAC Engineering give clients the best system for their investment. Trane‘s Trace 700 software is used for building calculations, energy comparisons and economic analysis.
HVAC Engineering, Inc. has the required insurance including $2,000,000 in General Liability Insurance and $1,000,000 in Professional Liability Insurance. A current Certificate of Insurance is available upon request.
