JETS Update

Where can students get a taste for
real-life engineering?
At a JETS’ TEAMS Competition!
Each year more than 14,000 students nationwide participate in the JETS’ TEAMS Competition. Students have fun, while learning how math, science, and engineering touch almost every aspect of their lives.
Why have your students compete in a competition?
- Challenge your students to think critically
- Show them how the subjects of math and science can lead to a variety of rewarding careers in engineering.
- Your students get to compete against other teams for local, state, and national awards and recognition.
TEAMS is enthusiastically hosted by more than 100 colleges, universities, and other educational institutions and organizations nationwide February 4th through March 12th, 2006. Please go to: www.jets.org/programs/teams-home.htm for dates and locations nearest to you.

Introducing the New JWOD/JETS National Engineering Design Challenge
Explore Engineering, Make a Difference, Have Fun,
and Win Prizes!
Register by October 16 to participate.
Now high school students can explore aspects of engineering — mechanical, electrical, biomedical, and rehabilitation engineering — and make a difference in their community and in someone’s life!
JETS has revamped its design competition, in partnership with NISH, to challenge students to design and build technological solutions that empower people with disabilities to enter or advance in the workplace. NISH is a national nonprofit agency whose mission is to create employment opportunities for people with severe disabilities by securing Federal contracts through the Javits-Wagner-O’Day (JWOD) Program.
Participating in the JWOD/JETS National Engineering Design Challenge is a cross-curricular activity — that involves problem solving skills, math, science, research, writing, presentation skills, and drafting/design skills...and fun and prizes!!

Another feature JETS will be providing each month is the hot topics section of the PE-Times newsletter. It will provide information on current technologies, activities, or events—providing news you can use items for classrooms and students. |
