April 2007, Issue #57
Letter from JETS
This month’s PE-Times spotlights chemical engineering—one of
engineering’s four main branches. Chemical engineers are involved in virtually
every product we use on a day-to-day basis—from the water we drink to the gas we
put in our cars to the medicines we take when ill to the plastics that surround
us and much more. Our hot topic of the month looks at how vitamin C can play a
role in developing plastics.
And, of course, the Coaches’ Corner provides
important resources for teachers. This month it also provides a link to national
winners of the 2007 TEAMS competition, which will be available April 23.
While TEAMS may be wrapping up for 2007, plans for the most exciting TEAMS competition ever are already underway. The theme for 2008 will challenge students to go behind the scenes and solve real world engineering challenges related to putting on a major sporting event such as the world cup, super bowl, or Olympic Games! Stay tuned for a lot of great pre-event activities to have fun and get psyched for TEAMS 2008.
In addition, JETS Clubs continue to grow with nearly 100 new clubs since February! If you haven't done so already, sign up to form a JETS Club today and get the full benefit of the resources JETS has to offer. It's free and participation is fun!
| We Are All Hokies — JETS extends its condolences to the friends and families
of all the victims of the tragic Virginia Tech shootings. Virginia Tech is
listed among the top 20 engineering programs in the
United States.
Among the list of victims being compiled
are 17 professors and students in the university’s engineering school. |
