JETS Update

CONGRATULATIONS 2005 TEAMS PARTICIPANTS!

Students from New Canaan High School (CT) participating at the University of New Haven and East Brunswick High School (NJ) participating at New Jersey Institute of Technology earned top honors by posting the highest Part I score (71 correct out of 80) in this year's TEAMS competition. Over 750 high schools and 1,600 teams participated in the TEAMS 2005 competition. For the state ranking report and schools advancing to nationals, click here. TEAMS National Rankings will be posted on JETS website on April 26.

**NOTICE** The TEAMS website is undergoing a MAJOR renovation, so check back often for updates and to view the new TEAMS website. The new site will feature photos, TEAMS promo video, video clips of TEAMS participants, and new and improved resources to name a few.

Teens Talk about TEAMS
I liked the teamwork aspect of the problem solving. When you're stumped you can turn to your partners and they'll help you out.

I enjoyed competing against a lot of other teams in the area. It was interesting to see how our school compares to others academically.

I really enjoyed JETS and have participated for the past couple of years. I'm interested in studying engineering in college and TEAMS gives you a feel for what it's like to solve real world engineering problems. We study physics, calculus, math and stuff in high school and it's hard to get a feel for engineering. The problems test your problem solving skills and made me realize that engineering is something I'd be interested in doing. I enjoyed the challenge of applying the knowledge I have.
It was definitely fun. We really liked how it was organized. We thought we did well on the test. I was assigned the nuclear engineering section and I got to use my AP physics and chemistry. It was fun.

I liked hanging out with my friends and working on problems. It was a good experience.

I think the best part is the moment you realize what you need to do to solve the problem and it's like a light goes on and it's really rewarding.

Last fall, JETS launched, with great success the JETS Challenge. Each week JETS posts a new problem along with the answer from the previous week's challenge. Make this a weekly activity in your classroom or tell your students about it and how they can logon at home. Take the JETS Challenge!

Deciding on a College Career?

High school students sometimes decide on their college career paths without really knowing what those courses of study will involve. In order to help students determine how well-prepared they are to enter an engineering or technology program in college and to answer questions students have about engineering and technology study, JETS has developed the National Engineering Aptitude Search+ (NEAS+) academic survey. The NEAS+ enables students to make informed decisions about their futures. Click here to learn more.
