Tyco Electronics Joins JETS as a TEAMS Competition Sponsor

ALEXANDRIA, VA, — July 6, 2006 — The Junior Engineering Technical Society, JETS, is proud to welcome Tyco Electronics as a first-time sponsor for the 2007 TEAMS Competition.

Fun and real-life engineering challenges for the adventurous — it's what attracts nearly 14,000 high school students from across America to participate in the annual TEAMS competition. A program of JETS, TEAMS provides groups of high school students the opportunity to synthesize key concepts in math, science, and physics and apply them to solve real-world engineering problems. Whether it is a scenario dealing with ice cream production, space exploration, or solar-powered vehicles, TEAMS shows students how everyday life is impacted by engineering. TEAMS is enthusiastically hosted by more than 100 colleges, universities, and other organizations each year. The 2007 TEAMS competition window is scheduled for February 3 through March 12.

"JETS is honored to have Tyco Electronics support the TEAMS competition," said Leann Yoder, JETS executive director. "Industry involvement is a vital component in connecting students and educators to the world of engineering and technology. The support from Tyco Electronics gives more students the chance to respond to multi-disciplinary challenges while developing teamwork and creative thinking skills - skills that are necessary for our nation's future workforce."

"We applaud JETS educational initiatives and are pleased to partner with them to invest in a stronger scientific and technological future by creating tomorrow's leaders today," said Mary Rakoczy, Administrator for the Tyco Electronics Foundation. She continues — "Our support of the TEAMS program is more than an investment in a program for students — it is also an investment in the future".
