Why TEAMS?

"We really liked how it was organized. We were welcomed by the JETS volunteers. We thought we did well on the test. We're confident. It's fun."

"I liked hanging out with my friends and working on problems. It was a good experience. I like solving problems. It's fun to figure something out and realize you got it right."

WHY PARTICIPATE?

TEAMS answers the question, "When will I use this?" by applying knowledge you learned in class to real-world challenges facing professionals today. In addition, the TEAMS competition allows you to:

  • Work with friends and classmates on interesting and intriguing problems
  • Compete against other schools, locally and across the country
  • Gain a sense of accomplishment by solving complex problems as a team
  • Win local, state, and national prizes

Furthermore, since TEAMS challenges are at a college-freshman level with competitions held on university campuses, participants see first-hand what the college experience is like. TEAMS is also an excellent way to augment your college application and acquire bragging rights for yourself, your team, and your school. Some universities even provide scholarships to winning team members.

Most importantly, TEAMS is fun!

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

Round up a bunch of classmates and choose a teacher to serve as your team coach—all teams must have a coach. Register online through the button in the left menu column and follow the instructions. It's easy and takes only two minutes!

WHAT NEXT?

TEAMS requires no preparation; however some teams find it helpful to meet a few times prior to the competition to go over team strategy and competition topics. JETS will begin releasing the 2008 Challenge Scenarios beginning in October of 2007; these will be the eight general themes from which all questions will be derived. For additional practice, check out the coach resources button!

Sign Up! Stay informed about all JETS has to offer and receive up-to-date competition announcements by signing up to receive the Pre-Engineering Times, a FREE monthly e-newsletter.

Explore. Learn how your interests align with different areas of engineering and technology. Find a topic that really intrigues you and hear directly from young engineers doing what they love. Get advice, check out future education options, and find out about all the behind the scenes benefits of engineering.

Assess. Identify your strengths and weaknesses in subject areas important for success in college engineering and technology programs.

Experience. TEAMS is just one way to experience real-world applications of engineering foundations. You might also want to try the National Engineering Design Challenge (NEDC) or consider taking the JETS Challenge.
